Ascension

I walked through the lobby of the hospital in my usual Monday morning haze towards the bank of elevators. I pressed the call button and was surprised when one of the doors opened without any waiting.

I got in, pressed a button, and as the doors were closing, I hear a voice calling, "Is that going up?"

Of course it's going up. We're on the ground floor.

"Nope, sorry, going down!" I say deviously as the doors close on that guy's face. Then I giggled in wicked glee.

Actually, that didn't happen. I just simply pushed the Door Open button and held the elevator for the guy, wondering why he didn't just ask me to hold the elevator, instead of asking that ridiculous question.
