Residence

My throat is under attack (again) by a vicious band of viruses.

Normally, the best treatment is to:
1. Sleep
2. Rest your voice
3. Drink plenty of fluids, especially warm teas to soothe the throat and give it a chance to heal.

However, I am unfortunately on call and therefore violating all of the recommended treatments. It feels like my throat has been exfoliated with a wire brush. Drinking napalm couldn't make my throat feel any worse. Of all nights for me to possibly start getting sick, of course it would be when I'm on call.

1. It's 2AM and I haven't had a chance to close my eyes yet. More than likely I will not get a chance to sleep tonight. So much for sleeping...

2. My beeper goes off an average of 5 times an hour, each page requiring me to talk on the phone for several minutes at least. Not to mention all the orders I give and the nurses I talk to while walking around taking care of the 20-some surgical patients in the ICU.

3. If I have time to drink tea, I should be sleeping instead.
