I read once that the various hodgepodge of items that line the checkout lanes at grocery and department stores are there to stimulate the impulsive portion of the brain, hoping that by catering to the pleasure seeking areas of the subconscious that they can raise their profit margins. I rarely fall victim to this plan because I have a relatively good sense of self restraint, but today at Target, I found myself buying a bag of Strawberry Cream flavored Hershey's Kisses.

It's white chocolate infused with artificial strawberry flavors. The candy tastes just too much like a chemical equation rather than the delictable confection it makes itself out to be. I wish they used more natural flavors than artificial flavors. Like most artificial things, such as egg substitute, Olestra, synthetic fibers, New Coke, breast implants, and fake personalities, you just can't beat the real thing.
