Orca

Trying to keep a low calorie diet while maintaining some degree of satiety would be easier if I lived in a more health conscious city like Seattle or San Francisco. Instead, I live in New Orleans, where everything is fried, coated with sugar, or swimming in melted butter.

I could go on for hours contemplating the bizarre irony that our hospital cafeteria has only a modicum of health friendly offerings, while offering depthless ladlefuls of waistline enhancing edibles.

Needless to say, I'm struggling with my diet. I've cut my Empty Calorie intake by half, but increased my craving and hunger logarithmically. My stomach constantly growls, begging for a carbohydrate load like a desperate crack whore. My omnipresent waistline reminds me that my fasting doesn't seem to be working fast enough.

Now my mornings are spent walking slowly by the pastry display of the cafeteria, salivating as I make my way grudgingly towards the hairnet-clad cafeteria lady who will dish out a slop of grey oatmeal for me to enjoy.

I miss my daily 500 calorie blueberry muffin.
And mid-morning donut snack.
