I stopped buying new clothes a few years ago when I basically ran out of closet space. Even after I removed the outdated and neverworn articles of clothing, I didn't have much space. Thankfully, most of the stuff I own is still relatively in style. Couple that with my meager paycheck and the mere fact that I wear real clothes only a couple days a week, and you see that there's not much of an impetus to buy more clothes.
I think this is what happens to most guys. They spend the better part of their early years trying to be hip and fashionable, and then they hit this wall of poverty and complacency, and the next thing they know, they're stuck in the Mobius strip of a fashion timewarp meltdown.
It's happening to me. Just today, wandering around the mall, I visited my usual armament of stores but failed to find anything that really caught my eye. In fact, I was disappointed by most of the stuff on display, and found them fashionably unpalatable. My arcaine definition of cool no longer exists, and I'm not hip enough to have evolved with the rest of society. Even J.Crew, my old standard, offers clothes that I no longer think are worth the money.
It's been a sad visit to the mall.
