"You look awfully young."

I shrugged a smile and continued with the patient's paperwork.

"You've done this before?"

I looked up at the patient and smiled. It's normal to be nervous, I explained, especially if your surgeon is younger than your youngest child.

That bit of humor didn't appear to ease her concern.
