STOCMOB

Friday night is commonly known as the Knife and Gun club to trauma centers across the United States. For a mysterious but quasi-obvious reason, more stabbing and gunshot injuries occur on Friday nights than any other night. Recently, there has been some spill over to Thursday as well. Perhaps the locals are getting their weekend started early.

When any trauma comes to the trauma bay, it's very important to obtain a thorough history and an account of the events that took place so that we can properly treat and resuscitate these patients and not miss any potential injuries. 99% of the time, when you ask the trauma patient how they got stabbed or shot, their common answer is: "I was just Standing On the Corner, Minding my Own Business when..."

My traum staff back at the Medical College of Georgia would call these patients STOCMOBs.
